Candylipz is one of the hottest new lip plumping products available on the market. I first came across Candylipz on Instagram, and after seeing the results I knew I had to have one.
I've tried various lip plumpers in the past, ranging from Soap and Glory to LipVoltage. Although I find these great, I don't always like to wear a gloss - particularly as I'm more of a lippy girl.
I soon ordered my Candylipz device (which I will explain more). Due to high demand, I had to wait a little while for it to arrive - there is currently only one stockist in the UK and after phenomenal demand she had to promptly order more from the US.
After what felt like a ridiculously long wait (in reality it was about 2 weeks) my Candylipz lip plumper arrived. It cost me £60 in total, including p+p. The packaging was just BEAUTIFUL! It felt like I'd ordered myself a present.
The Candylipz device comes in an apple and liquorice shape. The two apples come in green and red - the green apple leaves a slight indentation in the lower lobe supposedly akin to Angelina Jolie (I ordered this one). The liquorice plumpers are for wider lips, but don't appear to be as well used as the apple option.
When using the device, you need to go through a 'conditioning period'. This is to allow your lips to become accustomed to the device, as it will cause bruising at first. I've seen some pictures of girls with really bruised upper lips which can look quite painful. I was quite lucky and that I only got slight bruising on my actual lips. This was easily covered with a bit of lipstick.
Anyway, I used the device as instructed. You put your lips into the device, whilst expelling the air. Once the plumper is in place, you slowly release the pressure, which in turn sucks your lips in. I'm not going to lie, I did find it uncomfortable. Imagine sticking a hoover on your lips? It's like that. You slowly build your way up from using it from 1 minute at first. It is suggested that in order to gain maximum suction, you need to be able to let go of the device and let it hang on your lips without falling off. This took ALOT of practice - the girls on the tutorials made it look so easy!
The look afterwards was well... very dramatic. I was so shocked, I actually got a bag of peas to put on my lips to make them look less swollen. After the conditioning period, you are able to be a lot more flexible about how long you keep it on your lips - I think at first I was a little to eager. Once you've put a bit of lipstick or gloss on, your lips do truly look amazing.
The downsides. Whether or not its just me, I don't know. But... I find the plumped up effect only really lasts for about an hour. On a night out, the apple is pretty big to fit into a clutch bag. However, Candylipz do advise that if you're dehydrated, this can lessen the effects of the plumper. I would be interested to know if anyone else has used this device, and if they have found the same thing?
All in all, I would give this product 8/10. It really does do the job, and will give you a great pout. Having said that, I feel for what it is, it is rather expensive.
